Maison du Cap is the smallest of our six houses, and the most sheltered. It sits low on the seaward side of Núi Nhỏ — Small Mountain — half-buried into the granite, about a kilometre below the lighthouse. Three bedrooms open directly onto a long teak deck; the kitchen runs the full width of the south wall; the plunge pool drops off the cliff edge into open water at high tide.
The architecture is by Trần Khánh Nguyên, a Hà Nội practice working in southern tropical modernism — long horizontal planes, white plaster, very dark wood. The interior was put together by the owner over six years, mostly with pieces from antique dealers around Lê Lợi street in Saigon and the back lanes of Đà Lạt.

The house sits on the south face of Núi Nhỏ, the smaller of Vũng Tàu's two mountains, where the road between Hạ Long and Hải Đăng curls along the cliff. Above you to the east is the Christ the King statue (12 minutes by car, 30 minutes up on foot); above you to the west, the 1862 French lighthouse at the summit of the hill. The cove of Bãi Dứa — Pineapple Beach — is six minutes south down a switchback of stone steps. The bay below the house is calm in the morning, swimmable at high tide; the little beach at the foot of the cliff is shared only with the three other houses on this stretch of road.
